Having the same ringtone as everybody else might end up being a burden, rather than a thing that you do out of laziness (because you simply do not want to take the time to make a custom ringtone). Just think about it. You walk on the street, you hear a phone ring, and you suddenly check your pockets. Nobody has contacted you. You are in a constant state of being alert, because next time, it might be your phone that rings, and you might not hear it.
Due to the reasons mentioned above, you might end up missing important calls. Also, you might ignore a phone call from a loved one, because you think it can be someone else that you would like to ignore.
I guess that setting individual ringtones to contacts will make things easier. Just think about it. You can have a certain ringtone for people from work, another one for family and friends, and the third one for other contacts.
This way, you will know when you can ignore it, and when you might need to pick it up. If you want to know how to actually set an individual ringtone to contacts on your Android device, read ahead.
Steps for setting a ringtone for a contact on Android
If you own an Android device, then you are lucky, because the process is pretty much straightforward. The process may, however slightly differ from one device to another.
For this, I am going to use a Samsung device as an example.
Using the phone’s settings for setting up the ringtone
Step 1: Select a contact
For this step, you will need to go to the Contacts section and select the contact for which you want a personalized ringtone.
Step 2: Edit the contact
When you go to contact details, you should tap the menu button (usually represented by 3 vertical dots on the top right corner), then tap on edit (a step which might not be needed on some devices).
Step 3: Select the ringtone
You need to scroll until you see the button Ringtone. You need to select this option and choose what tone you want to play when they contact you.
Using Google Hangouts for setting up the ringtone
Step 1: Choose a contact
For this step, you will need to select the contact that you want, or even pick an active Hangout, which can also be a group.
Step 2: Select Options
For this step, you will need to go to the Menu (three vertical points), and select “People and options”.
Step 3: Assign a ringtone to a person or a group
This is where you can finally pick a song for a person or a group.
Now that you know how to set up a personalized song for a certain contact or a group of contacts, all that you need to do is to start assigning ringtones to your contacts. Sooner than you know it, you won’t even need to look at the phone in order to know who is calling you.
